I cooked a 2 disc project on some Speakerboxxx/The Love Below type shit because I wanted to create something that would explore and show the duality of my character as a Mexican-American artist. I wanted to challenge myself and craft something timeless, one of those projects that lives with you forever. Side B helped me get out of my head as an overthinker and just enjoy and actually live and have fun with it.
Side A, frames.mx, is more introspective and on some rap shit, conscious what foo’s might call it. La Colonia, is more upbeat, fun and carefree, heavily influenced by Spanish Rock, which is different from what we usually make but it’s just fire to me. In my experience, Spanish Rock has always uplifted the broken-hearted. It’s a piece from my culture that I’ve always noticed growing up: going to birthday parties eating tacos de asada, eating pizza, drinking Caguamas, Coronas, Modelos, dancing and singing. It’s a feeling that I wanted to relive.
All these Spanish Rock songs have been recently recorded on some raw, fun shit with my homeboy Ben. We didn’t even shoot to create something like it, it just naturally came out in one of our sessions and we kept rcokin with it. Two man band type shit. I always fuck around and tell him we’re like the White Stripes, pero con color.
I appreciate ya’ll that are tuning in and looking forward to the project. I can’t wait for ya’ll to hear frames.mx /la colonia. Truly, my best work yet.
